Curriculum & Instruction
Darien Public School District # 61 has worked within the established curriculum committees to align curriculum with the Common Core State Standards. This is an ongoing process being implemented over time as children move through the District. The Common Core Standards are "fewer, clearer, and higher" which will raise the requirement for our students.
The State has adopted the Standards the following areas:
- English/Language Arts which incorporate Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
- Mathematics which incorporates Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
- Science which focuses on disciplinary core ideas (content), scientific and engineering practices, and cross-cutting concepts. (https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Science-Learning-Standards.aspx)
- Social Studies which focuses on inquiry and application of various disciplinary concepts.
