8th Grade Research Project
Congratulations! You have been given a great summer job! The Washington D.C. Tourism Service has hired you to act as a tour guide. You will get to work in our nation’s capital. There are a couple of things that you will have to do to prepare for this opportunity.
To Do:
- Determine which site you will be working at. See Web links for list of choices. You may need to look at a couple of sites before making your final decision.
- Once you choose a site, you will need to do an in-depth exploration of it. This includes using the Internet links attached to your site, Electric Library (as a database for encyclopedias, books, newspaper articles, magazines, and other sources), and our school library.
- Use the handouts to guide you through the process of completing your project.
- Once your project is completed refer to the checklist and rubric in the evaluation section.
Essential Questions to address while researching:
- What purpose does your building, memorial, monument, or place serve?
When was it built and who was instrumental in the planning and building process?- What are some historical occurrences that took place at your site?
- What important people have worked there and what did they do? (Answer only if applicable).
- What are some statistics and facts about your site?
- Other interesting pieces of information that are unique to your site.
Remember, YOU are the EXPERT about your site. It will be your job to inform visitors about it and answer all questions regarding your site.
Good Luck and Have Fun!
