Colonial Web Quest!!!

Introduction

Make history come alive!!! Go back in time and live the life of an early colonist in the 1700's. Get ready, be prepared. It's a journey that will last a life time!!!! Get ready for hard times and enter into a world of no electronics!!!

The Task

You will need to know about the daily life of people from this period. Information you gather will then be presented in skits, interviews, videos, songs, rap, or other activities. You will reenact and discuss the lives of these people on a two hour, made for T.V. special, that airs on the C.T. T.V. (Colonial Times Television Network.) You will be given a character from the list below, and your character will depict the life style and engage in daily activities from this time period.

The Process

Your group will consist of no more than 3 people, including you.

 

Select a character from the following list.

• Colonial Child

• Colonial Tradesman

• Farmer in the Middle Colonies

• Plantation Owner in the Southern Colonies

• African Slave

• Indentured Servant

• New England Puritan

• A Quaker in Pennsylvania

• A Resident in a Large Colonial City

• Famous Personality ( George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Anne Hutchinson, Ben Franklin, etc.)

 

You will need to learn as much as possible about the life style of your character. Some of the things that you need to research would be: clothing, housing, daily activities, tools or artifacts that were part of their lives, hardships, or luxuries, technology, family life, religion, geographic location, available resources, etc...)

Remember, your presentation should be informative and interesting. You will be evaluated on the depth and quality of your information. Creativity will also be assessed.

Each group member must research specific topics. You may select from the following list, what you would like to learn about. You will need to take notes, and your notes will be graded.

Conclusion

As a result of this activity you will have a greater understanding and appreciation of the colonists and the hardships they faced in their daily life.
